I grew up on the Mendocino coast with artistic parents—my mother is a professional painter and musician, and my father is a talented jazz pianist. My household was constantly full of interactive creativity and interesting talent. I used art, photography, theater arts, and choir to flourish through my childhood and adolescence. I graduated from California State University, Sacramento, with a Bachelors degree in Child Development. I was on my way to become a teacher when I discovered art therapy. Art therapy intrigued me because it took was I was currently studying, children and families, and combined it with my passion for artistic expression. I set out to study and found a prestigious school in Belmont, California, called Notre Dame de Namur University. NDNU is one of two schools in California that offers an accredited degree in Marriage Family Therapy and Art Therapy.
Throughout my education I have worked with children and families in many capacities and now find that my knowledge of child development and the developmental stages of art making make it easier for me to communicate with parents and to work with children when they are dealing with developmental issues or emotional problems.
I have also volunteered our community with Mothers’ Support Network, a Sacramento non-profit. I co-facilitated their New Moms Group, served on their board for over a year as chairwoman, and continue to teach a variety of classes. I enjoy working with mothers and assisting them in making time for themselves.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist(#45502) and a Registered Art Therapist. I am a member of California Associate of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) and the American Art Therapy Association (AATA). I have been using art and it’s therapeutic effects for over 10 years in private and clinical settings (assisting adults, teens, children; autistic children and teens; and children and adults facing traumatic abuse).
By creating a warm, open, safe, and confidential environment, my art studio practice is designed to help you have the right beginning so that you can meet your goals. I works primarily with people who desire to work in the long term, intensive, deep areas – getting to the core of your problems and balancing that with your strengths, with or without the use of art. Most patients come wanting more than just temporary symptomatic changes.
Therapy can be conducted individually, with a significant other, with other family members, or in a group setting. I provide a free 15 minute telephone consultation to discuss if I can be of help to you with your unique needs and interests. The first session is offered at a reduced rate of $40.00 when you mention this discounted rate. Following session rates are competitive with the industry.
