Majica Phillips, MA, MFT, ATR

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
Registered Art Therapist
Supervisor

By creating a warm, open, safe, and confidential environment, my art studio practice is designed to help you have the right beginning so that you can meet your goals.  I work primarily with people who desire to work in the long term, intensive, deep areas – getting to the core of your problems and balancing that with your strengths, with or without the use of art. Most patients come wanting more than just temporary symptomatic changes.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist(#45502) and a Registered Art Therapist. I am a member of California Associate of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) and the American Art Therapy Association (AATA).  I have also been trained in Advanced Integrative Therapy and have taken both the Basics and the Masters course.  I have also been trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and I am currently working on my certification in that coursework. I have been using art and it’s therapeutic effects for over 15 years in private and clinical settings (assisting adults, teens, children; autistic children and teens; and children and adults facing traumatic abuse).

I grew up on the Mendocino coast with artistic parents—my mother is a professional painter and musician, and my father is a talented jazz pianist.  My household was constantly full of interactive creativity and interesting talent.  I used art, photography, theater arts, and choir to flourish through my childhood and adolescence.  I graduated from California State University, Sacramento, with a Bachelors degree in Child Development.  I was on my way to become a teacher when I discovered art therapy.  Art therapy intrigued me because it took what I was currently studying, children and families, and combined it with my passion for artistic expression.  I set out to study and found a prestigious school in Belmont, California, called Notre Dame de Namur University.  NDNU is one of two schools in California that offers an accredited degree in Marriage Family Therapy and Art Psychotherapy.
Throughout my education I have worked with children and families in many capacities and now find that my knowledge of child development and the developmental stages of art making make it easier for me to communicate  with parents and to work with children when they are dealing with developmental issues or emotional problems.

Therapy can be conducted individually, with a significant other, with other family members, or in a group setting. I provide a free 15 minute telephone consultation to discuss if I can be of help to you with your unique needs and interests. You do not need to be an artist to work with me; not all of my clients do art therapy. Session rates are competitive with the industry.

Leslie Claridge Town, MA

Marriage & Family Therapist Intern
916-512-9721

Leslie is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern, having earned her bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Oregon and her M.A. in Psychology from Chapman University.

Leslie cares deeply about relationships. Relationships can be a source of pain and hurt, but they can also be a source of strength, happiness and love. What gives her great hope is the amount of healing an individual can find in a healthy relationship. When relationships are based on authenticity, security, and acceptance, healing happens.

After college, Leslie bought a one-way plane ticket to London, England. Her only possessions were those that could fit in her backpack. For the next few years she managed to work and travel around the world. From the Isle of Skye to Krakow, from Istanbul to New Delhi, from Bangkok to Mexico City, she saw the diversity of life. But one thing that people all over the world have in common is relationship. Our brains are wired to connect with one another. This is how she see individuals, in connection with others.

As a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, Leslie understand the complexity of relationships. With mindfulness and compassion, she has found great healing through connection with others and is excited to offer you the same. Leslie is supervised by Majica Phillips, MFT, ATR (#45502).

Micaela Van Dine, MA, MS

Marriage & Family Therapist Intern
916-930-6184

Like so many others, I know the pain and confusion of growing up in a highly dysfunctional, drug addicted, and mentally ill family. The trauma that a child experiences from constantly being “on guard” leaves a huge scar. With the guidance of an incredible therapist, I was able to heal many of my wounds. This therapist helped me feel worthy of self love and self-compassion. I love the quote by Hannah Brencher, “The best gift you are ever going to give some – is the permission to feel safe in their own skin. To feel worthy. To feel like they are enough. ” It wasn’t until twenty- two years later that I really understood how precious the gift of my therapist’s assistance with my healing was. After ending an abusive marriage and going through tremendous healing with the help of my therapist, I decided to become a therapist myself. Now I want to support those going through painful changes and help them feel safe, worthy, and loved.

No single approach is the right one for every client. Therefore, I am very adept at finding the right approach depending on the presenting issues as well as the personality of my clients. I offer Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for many clients. However, I also utilize Narrative Therapy for work with trauma victims, play therapy with children, and experiential therapy for some clients. When working with couples, I prefer the Gottman Method and Strategic Therapy. I incorporate spiritual concepts and artistic expression for those who align with those therapeutic approaches.

Prefer to see faces and hear voices to see if we would be a good match?

Are you tired of the same old therapy? Many of my clients have been underwhelmed by their past experience in therapy and are now interested in doing a more creative, direct kind of work on themselves. I use Cutting Edge therapeutic techniques that offer permanent results for people with a wide range of issues or concerns. I am an experienced therapist specializing in working with people who desire to cultivate their true identity and connect on a deeper level with humankind.

We will find the root of your discomfort and wounds together. I will help you find peace, unleash your creativity, and heal old pain.  Clients say I am able to "see them for the first time" and I help eliminate unresolved issues permanently.

Starting therapy means that you get to begin living more consciously, you will begin to see your own patterns of self-harm and learn ways to avoid those mishaps without the common errors of emotions.  To help you obtain this blissful life I will be your guide, mentor, and friend but mostly, your therapist.
